Hi my name is Jon King. I'm a five year resident of Higginsville. I volunteered to dance mostly because I wanted to support Colleen, my wife, but now that I'm into practices I'm really enjoying myself. Trust me, dancing is much harder than it looks on TV.
It was a long and winding career path that ultimately brought us to Higginsville. After 18 years of working for major grain and trading companies, I decided to take all that I had learned about grain trading, risk management, and crop insurance and start a company right here in Higginsville to help area farmers market their crops and manage their risk.
We named the business Strategic Marketing and Risk Transfer, LLC., located at 200 Fairground Ave. Area farmers have been very supportive of our business and we grew to five employees after just three years.
Along the way I became active in the First Baptist Church, Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary. In 2007 I was elected to the City Council as a Ward #2 Alderman. When I said "a long and winding path" I meant it. I was born in Columbus, OH and spent most of my youth in rural Central Illinois where I developed a love and passion for agriculture. In 1987 I graduated Cum Laude from Western Illinois University with an Ag Econ degree and have been blessed with many opportunities to trade grain domestically and internationally, work as a floor trader at the Kansas City Board of Trade, and start up many successful service oriented businesses that help farmers manage their risk through crop insurance and marketing of their crops. In all, I have lived in seven states and 11 towns as my job has moved me around.
In December of 2007 I sold SMART, LLC to Diversified Services, Inc. I will be staying on as the Regional Manager and we are up to 10 employees. We still do the same things we have always done to add value to area producers, but now we have the resources of the 4th largest grain company in the US and the 4th largest crop insurance company in the US to help us assist our producer customers and provide good benefits to our staff.
Colleen & I have two excellent children Brice and Justin. We have lived in many places as my employers transferred us around the country over the years and have found Higginsville to be absolutely the best community we have ever lived in. My hobbies are running, swimming, fishing, and a little golf if I have an entire afternoon free.
I'm thrilled for the opportunity to be a dancer to raise money for the worthy causes we are working for. I hope you will buy lots of tickets, bring your friends, neighbors and relatives, and support all the hard work and caring spirit that has gone into bringing an event of this caliber to our community.
PS: Don't forget to stuff the ballot box for me.

Angela first began dancing hip hop at a young age. She enjoyed cheerleading for 5 years and also assisted as a coach in high school. She began dancing with the Swingsters in January 2008 and she currently teaches children and adult Ballroom, Latin and Swing classes at Louis and Company. Angela loves to positively influence those she meets and to make a difference in the lives of those she teaches.
